WordPress H5P Hub registration fails though outbound connection works
Hello,
I am trying to enable the H5P Hub on my WordPress site, but the hub registration fails and shows:
"Your site is having difficulties connecting to h5p.test.schulcloud-thueringen.de and listing the available content types."
Environment
WordPress site hosted on SiteGround
H5P plugin installed and activated
H5P Hub enabled in settings
Server IP: 35.209.141.26
What I have already checked
SiteGround confirmed they are not blocking outgoing connections
Telnet test from the server to h5p.test.schulcloud-thueringen.de:443 succeeds
No firewall or country blocks reported by host
Updating content type cache does not work
Installed libraries shows N/A
Error persists after saving settings
SiteGround support suggested the issue may be on the H5P side since outbound connectivity is working.
Question
What else could cause the H5P Hub registration to fail in this situation, and what should I check next?
Thank you for your help

Could be a temporary outage.
Could be a temporary outage. I just pinged both, the old endpoint `api.h5p.test.schulcloud-thueringen.de` and `the new endpoint `hub-api.h5p.test.schulcloud-thueringen.de` and both seem to be able to answer the ping quickly, at least.

Thanks Oliver! I think the servers are getting too many requests because of the recent updates.

Still failing – environment details included
Thanks for taking a look. The issue is still occurring on my end.
Here is my current environment:
• WordPress H5P plugin version: 1.17.1
• PHP version: 8.2.30
• Web server: Apache
• Host: SiteGround
• Server IP: 35.209.141.26
What I have verified:
• H5P plugin is installed and activated
• H5P Hub is enabled in settings
• SiteGround confirms outbound connections are not blocked
• Telnet test to h5p.test.schulcloud-thueringen.de:443 succeeds
• No firewall or country blocks reported by host
• Updating content type cache does not work
• Installed libraries show N/A
• Error persists after saving settings
From Site Health → WordPress constants, nothing appears misconfigured (WP_DEBUG disabled, memory limits adequate).
Since outbound connectivity appears to be working, is there anything else on the server or WordPress side that could prevent Hub registration? Are there specific endpoints, IPv6 settings, or WordPress HTTP configurations you recommend checking next?
Thank you for any guidance.

Version 1.17.1 seems to cause
Version 1.17.1 seems to cause other issues, too (cmp. https://h5p.test.schulcloud-thueringen.de/node/1556879). Your problem does not seem to be covered by the other known issues, but it is likely that it is connected. As we learned on other posts, the developers are aware of it, but nothing will be done on this weekend.

Similar issues
We're having similar issues at the moment. Spoke to support on Wordpress and they couldn't figure it out so I'm assuming it's on H5p's end.
