What is Matrix?
Matrix is a free instant messenger with the ability to host different rooms known as channels. To put it simply, it is an open-source equivalent of Slack. Matrix enables users to message with others freely in different channels and send instant messages too.
How to Join
Download the free Matrix app on your phone or computer.
Or use it directly in your browser—no installation required. [NOTE: I have found the Element app works well in browser.]
Once youʼre set up, you can hop into any of the channels that interest you.
For direct links to the specific channels, see below:
- General Discussions - Your go-to space for everything related to using H5P. Ask questions, share best practices, or explore how others are using H5P in creative ways. This is where most of the day-to-day discussion happens
- Contributors - A dedicated room for those contributing to the H5P open source project. Talk about new features, bug fixes pull requests, documentation, reviews, or development questions. If you're looking to get involved under the hood—this is your place.
- Social - Welcome to the community! Introduce yourself, share news, cool projects, or anything that helps us connect beyond code and content. Itʼs our virtual café — casual, friendly, and open to all.
- Ambassadors - A private group for H5P ambassadors. Please message , and you'll be invited to the channel once you join the platform.

Welcome to Matrix and the H5P channels!
You'll be able to join any public channels that interest you. Don't forget to introduce yourself in social!
If you are a D2L/H5P employee, we recommend you add your role after your name. E.g. Kelly Choi (H5P Community Manager)
